Hudson Valley Artists “Paired” with Hudson Valley Wineries
in Winter Celebration

— Artists preview traveling winery-inspired exhibit at complimentary tasting with 24 Hudson Valley wines, artisanal cheeses —

HUDSON VALLEY, NY, November 11, 2010. —Hudson Valley Wine Magazine announces the official “pairing” of Hudson Valley Wineries with local artists who are creating works inspired by the wine and the making of it.

More than 15 artists will discuss and preview some of their work at a complimentary wine tasting from 4–7 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010, at Locust Grove, The Samuel F.B. Morse Historic Site, 2683 South Road (Route 9), Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 (www.lgny.org). The event is open to the press and invited guests only.

The “pairings” project is part of the Hudson Valley Wine Magazine’s “Year-Long Celebration of Art & Wine in the Hudson Valley.” The program supports the recognition of the Hudson Valley as a destination for art, wine and cultural experiences while directly promoting the region’s wineries, artists, galleries, and historic sites.

“The residents of the Hudson River Valley have a passion for its history and culture—marry that with fine wines, and you created a paradise of existence,” said MaryKay Vrba, President of Hudson Valley Tourism. “The coming year will give visitors an opportunity to see exciting new art in creative venues throughout the region. This is the beginning of a series of not-to-be-missed events within only two hours of New York City.”

A juried selection of professional artists were chosen in April to create, in their own chosen medium, a wine- or vineyard-inspired artwork. The artists, from many different regions in the Hudson Valley, are given a year in which to create their work. All the works will premiere on May 20, 2011 at Lyndhurst, a National Trust Historic Site at the Grand Celebration of Hudson Valley Art & Wine event. The exhibit will then travel to several Hudson Valley art galleries.

“Pairing food and wine is considered an art,” remarked Robert Bedford, Executive Editor of Hudson Valley Wine Magazine, “ but here in the Hudson Valley art and wine make for a perfect pairing. Historically this region has had an affinity for both – as home to the oldest winery in the U.S., and as the birthplace of the America’s first school of art, the Hudson River School. This event will showcase the best of both in today’s world.”

“This year-long celebration of art and wine is a rare opportunity to unite our community with our hearts and minds,” said Lee Anne Morgan, a fine art photographer from the Catskills and one of the participating artists. “This event is not only for the artists and wineries involved, but also for everyone and anyone who enjoys mingling with kindred spirits to look at beauty, ponder the abstract, touch a newly, inspired sculpture, and sip the grape.”
