ABOUT US
THE HUDSON RIVER REGION is a world-class fruit growing region and has the potential of being a world class wine region as well. We at Tousey Winery have embraced this potential and are committed to producing great wines from grapes grown right here in our own AVA (American Viticulture Area) the “Hudson River Region.”
Historically, we grew and pressed apples but a few years ago, New York state forced growers to pasteurize their cider. This caused us a problem as we like to keep things natural. We had to evolve and seeing as we already had grapes and black currants growing on the farm, in addition to our commercially-registered apiary, we had the makings of something new. This conveniently led to fulfilling a dream of ours – to make a cassis with the raw honey from the bees that we raise. So, in large thanks to New York state, Tousey Winery was born! We are family-owned and operated, dedicated to producing quality, handcrafted wines from the estate and local grapes.
You will find us in Clermont which means “Clear Mountain” in French due to the beautiful backdrop of the Catskill Mountains. The area is steeped in history from its most esteemed resident, Robert R. Livingston who was a member of the committee responsible for drafting the Declaration of Independence, to Robert Fulton’s steamboat the “North River,” widely know as the “Clermont” due it being registered at the port in Clermont. Being centrally located on Route 9, we are in a prime position for all visitors up and down the state. We are only 50 minutes north of Poughkeepsie and one hour south of Albany. And if you are in New York City, we are right on Broadway, just travel 98 miles north!
The Blue Roof market, where our wine tasting room is currently situated, was built by Ray Tousey himself and has become a well known landmark amongst local residents. It has evolved many times over the years and has been called home to a theatre, a coffee shop and a farmers’ market to name but a few. But today, it’s the home to our winery. From the Italian tile to the rustic New York apple crates, you will find a visit to our tasting room to be warm, friendly, yet unique. Customers have said that our tasting room looks similar to the boutique wineries in Napa Valley. We would love for you to come and judge for yourself! In addition to our wines, you will also have the opportunity to purchase our honey, fresh fruit in the summer and the occasional crepe!
To complement our wine, take a stroll amongst our vineyard of which we have several acres, and amongst the rows of black currants, raspberries and tomatoes that grow here. We are proud of what we do and what the Hudson River region has to offer. So please come and visit us for a glass of wine or two!

Our Clermont White is a refreshing fruity, off dry, white wine. Made from premium French hybrid grapes from the Hudson River Region, it has a crisp acidity emphasizing the fruit flavors. Our Clermont White pairs well with seafood or poultry.
CLERMONT ROSÉOur Clermont Rosé is a blend of premium French hybrid grapes grown right here in the Hudson River Region. A wonderfully balanced and lively summer aperitif, it brings out red fruity flavors on the palate. A great combination with grilled poultry or pork.
RIESLINGOur Riesling wine is finished with just enough residual sugar to balance the crisp acidity with the fabulous flavors of grapefruit and lemons. This Riesling will pair well with grilled seafood, shellfish, chicken and turkey. The winemakers’ personal favorite.
PLUM WINEOur Japanese plum wine, made from plums grown on the farm, is a tasty aperitif or to finish a classic Japanese meal. This wine is a wonderful balance of the sweet and tart flavors of the plums.
CRÈME DE CASSISA blend of four varieties of black currants, grown on the estate, along with honey (no sugar) from our very own bee hives. Uniquely, the honey is used to sweeten and balance the Cassis against the sharpness of the currant to give a bold and fragrant flavor.
